Arguably, beans is the most consumed agricultural food product in Nigeria mostly especially by student in various institution. Beans has a kidney like shape, while some are spherical in shape. Beans is very nutritious and a major source of protein. It other nutrient such as Vitamin A, protein, iron, vitamin B6, vitamin E. Beans can just be boiled or cooked in making of several recipe such as Akara, Moi Moi, and soup, locally, known as “gbegeri”

In a tremendous quantity, most of brown beans compared to black-eyed beans in the country are abundantly cultivated by the farmers in northern parts of Nigeria such as Borno, Gombe, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara State.

Honey Beans ( Ewa Oloyin)

Honey beans. This beans is popularly known in several part of Nigeria, most especially in west, as Ewa Oloyin because of its sweet taste when cooked. The grain of Honey beans is relatively small and it is light brown in colour.

In Nigeria, Honey(Oloyin) beans is usually bagged from the farm with a bag containing over 40 congo’s or 16 paint rubber.

Drum(Red) Beans.

Drum(red) beans is relatively dark brown/red in colour. The grain of drum beans very brownish than honey beans seed and is alittle bigger and larger than that of Oloyin beans. In Nigeria, a standard bag of Drum(red) beans contains over 70 congos or 28 paint rubber.

White beans          

White beans is known to have an extraordinary health benefit acting has an anti-oxidant, regulate the body fat, and has adequate amount of minerals such as magnesium. White beans are of two types. Sokoto beans and Mala beans. Both beans are white in colour and have black-eye. The major difference is that Sokoto beans are small grain while Mala beans are relativity large and usually more expensive.
